I have been able to sit with my two host teachers regarding my Advocacy Action Plan. Most of my research has been done with my host teachers. I have had the chance to observe teachers during the sample lessons that we found. I found information on the internet that supports the Action Plan. Integrating math and Science is beneficial for the students and the teachers. I also found out while doing research that teachers like to integrate math and science lessons because the lessons are easier to plan for and it also makes learning fun. The teachers like to make learning fun for their students. It keeps students engaged in the lesson and helps them to retain the concept of the lesson.

I would like to ask if anyone works in a setting that uses the STEM program? Is it similar to integrating lessons? I would also like to get more research on the STEM program and see if it would be a good fit for the school that I am volunteering in? I would also like to know if anyone that currently teaches in the primary grades integrates math and science?

My host teachers have been most helpful to me during this journey. They helped me find the lessons that have math and science integrated and the ones that didn’t.  They took the time to work with me on their own time.  The teachers mentioned to their principal that a curriculum needs to have the subjects integrated.  They were told to find lessons that they could integrate math and science.  It was very important to them to have math and science integrated because they are the core subjects in school.  Math and science will be used throughout the child’s lives.

Math and science are also subjects that need more attention.  The teachers agree that they do spend more time on teaching these subjects.  Finding lessons that have the integrated will allow them the time to teach the lesson and offer help to the students that may not retain the concept.

My host teachers and I also consulted with other teachers.  The other teachers also liked the concept of integrating lessons.  They had gotten used to finding lessons that have math and science integrated since it wasn’t a part of the current curriculum.  The teachers don’t mind taking the time to find the lessons, but they did say that it would be easier to plan the lesson if they were already integrated as part of the curriculum.
